Is it Cake? Launched on Netflix back in March 2022 and quickly became a fan favorite – why? The concept. The show allows exceptionally talented bakers to compete and bake delicious cakes in the form of everyday items. Then a panel of celebrity judges must compare it to the real object and guess which one is real or cake. Easy right? You may have to ask the judges about that one!
What makes this show so entertaining to watch?
Apart from watching extraordinary bakers compete for cash. It is also an unlikely interaction between the cooks and the host. Have you ever heard of tilt scape? No. Me neither. Funnily enough, it was a made-up baking term that the cooks pranked the host within one of its episodes. It was amusing to watch as the bakers tried to explain the “cooking term” and they had the host/Saturday Night Live cast member Mikey Day eating out of the palm of their hands. They eventually put the host out of his misery and revealed it was not a baking term at all. His reaction was like a kid finding out the Easter Bunny isn’t real.
Not only that but the anticipation of when the guest judges such as Chrishell Stause, Blake Anderson, Chloe Fineman, Dixie D’Amelio, Chris Redd and more have to decide which one is real or not is captivating to watch. It starts with the contestants having to choose between an everyday item and the cake version. And decide – is it cake? From there. They get a little advantage – they get to pick which item they would like to make. It is important because they get to pick the one, they think would be the easiest to make. The cakes truly look like everyday items and the detailing is done to perfection. And is quite impressive.
What is in it for the contestants?
Money of course and being crowned the Champion of ‘Is it Cake?’ Plus, the bakers get to show off their baking skills, to wide audience and because Netflix famous which in turn means bolstering there image and selling for baked goods.
Why watch?
The competition between the cast is fun to watch as they all compete for the overall prize of 10k. But, the kicker. To win the extra 10k they have to guess if is it real or is it cake? And watching the contestants struggle with choosing the right one is totally nerve-racking. They don’t always get it right. Maybe it is the pressure. It is probably the pressure!! I didn’t always get it right either and I wasn’t the one in the running for the money. Plus, Mikey Day’s one-liners are truly worth a reason to watch.
